Upper Merion Park and Historic Foundation
It's spring again! Time to get out and enjoy a walk in the woods, to watch the leaves on the trees turning the sky green and the plants budding all around you. Come park your car in the Roberts Elementary School lot and take a hike. The McKaig Nature Center provides a perfect opportunity to commune with nature. Its 89 acres of woodlands with a rambling stream and walking paths are here in your community for you to enjoy. Our Foundation and Upper Merion Townshop own and maintain the Nature Center and are dedicated to keeping the woods open and accessible for all.
With more and more open space disappearing, the Nature Center is even more important to all of us. This past year the Berry farm along Croton and Warner has been developed into a residential development. The Valley Forge Golf Course will soon be developed, land that the Foundation fought to remain for recreational use.
We are again asking for your help by supporting our annual membership drive. This is our largest source of poeration revenue and we depend on it to maintain the Nature Center. It takes time and effort to keep the walking paths clear, foot bridges maintained and stream erosion in check. The active Foundation members willingly volunteer their time for this effort.
Please help us by renewing or becoming a new member of the Upper Merion Park and Historic Foundation. Your support also enables us to plan educational events, plant trees in the Nature Center and Townshop parks, sponsor the annual Arbor Day Celebration, donate funds to local libraries, maintain the Old Roberts Schoolhouse and prepare a member newsletter. This year we plan to continue erosion control, trail maintenance and a special project in the Meadow at McKaig. We are also taking steps to initiate environmental education programs at the Center utilizing the Schoolhouse.
The Foundation is a 501-© (3) nonprofit organization with a mission to preserve open space and historical properties in Upper Merion Township. This year, we celebrate our fortieth anniversary.
